Ireland Visa Documents Checklist for India Applicants 2026
Getting the documents right is the single most controllable factor in an Ireland visa application. A complete, well-organised submission reduces the chance of refusal or unnecessary delays. This guide covers all the documents typically required when applying from India through VFS Global in New Delhi.
Universal Documents (Required for All Visa Types)
Regardless of the visa category, every applicant must include the following:
- Valid passport — must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended return date, with at least 2 blank pages
- Photocopy of all used pages of your passport (including stamps and visas)
- Old passports (if any) — include complete copies showing travel history
- Completed and signed visa application form (from the Irish Immigration Service website)
- Two recent passport-sized photographs (white background, taken within the last 6 months)
- Proof of payment of the visa fee (receipt from VFS Global)
- Cover letter clearly explaining the purpose, dates, and itinerary of your visit
Financial Documents
This is the area where most applications fall short. The embassy wants to see that you can fund your trip and have reason to return to India. Provide:
- 6 months of personal bank statements showing consistent balance — avoid sudden large deposits
- Latest 3 payslips or salary certificates (if employed)
- Income Tax Returns (ITR) for the last 2 years
- Proof of accommodation in Ireland: hotel bookings or a letter of invitation from a host
- Return flight bookings (or at minimum, a tentative itinerary)
- Travel insurance covering the entire duration of your visit (minimum €25,000 medical cover)
Proof of Ties to India (Employment / Business)
This is critical. The embassy needs confidence that you will return to India after your visit.
- If employed: Employment letter on company letterhead stating your position, salary, approved leave dates, and confirmation you will return to your role
- If self-employed: Business registration documents, recent bank statements for the business, and a letter from your accountant
- If a student: Enrollment certificate from your institution, a letter confirming you are currently studying, and your academic schedule
- If retired: Pension statement or proof of retirement income
Property and Family Ties
- Property ownership documents (if applicable)
- Marriage certificate (if married), and evidence of family dependants remaining in India
- Birth certificates of children (if applicable)
For Tourist / Holiday Visas
- Detailed travel itinerary: where you will stay each night, what you plan to visit
- Hotel booking confirmations for every night (refundable bookings are acceptable)
- Evidence of previous international travel: prior visas, entry and exit stamps
For Business Visas
- Invitation letter from the Irish company or organisation on official letterhead, stating the purpose and dates of the visit
- Letter from your Indian employer confirming the business purpose and that costs will be covered
- Company registration documents (both Indian and Irish entity, if available)
For Visiting Family or Friends
- Invitation letter from your host in Ireland, including their name, address, contact details, and your relationship to them
- Proof of your host's immigration status in Ireland (copy of their Irish passport, residence permit, or Irish citizenship certificate)
- Your host's recent utility bill or bank statement confirming their address
Tips for Preparing Your Documents
- Organise documents in the order they appear on the VFS checklist — reviewers appreciate a structured submission
- All documents must be in English or accompanied by a certified translation
- Do not submit originals unless specifically required — keep originals and submit certified copies
- Bank statements must show the account holder's name, account number, and transaction history — screenshots are not accepted
- Avoid gaps: if you have a gap in employment or travel history, explain it in your cover letter

Do I need to translate my documents?
All documents must be in English. Any document in another language must be accompanied by a certified English translation. Bank statements issued in English by Indian banks do not require translation.
How much money should be in my bank account?
There is no fixed minimum, but the general guideline is to show sufficient funds to cover all costs of your trip — accommodation, transport, daily expenses — plus a reasonable buffer. A consistent 6-month history is more convincing than a large recent deposit.
Is this list official?
This guide is based on publicly available embassy guidance but is not an official Irish Embassy document. Always verify requirements with the Irish Embassy in New Delhi or the Irish Immigration Service before submitting.
